Functioning across a variety of contexts and in constant negotiation with spaces, FICA’s exhibitions have taken multiple forms of engagement through the years. Adopting a critical pedagogical approach towards exhibition making, there has been a diversity in the experimentations that we continue to explore and implement, in collaboration with artists and continually expanding networks. Toying with formats of exhibition, we have opened up dialogues that have made present critical thinking and interactive disseminations of media and material, engaging with specific yet varied sets of publics. Taking the exhibition platform as an educational space, we have developed forums for exchange, conversation, and collective thinking in and alongside these spaces of convivium. Our exhibition platforms are thus imagined as energetic forums that use the collective nature of the exhibition site to invite and include various practitioners, and make visible the work that is being carried out by FICA and its benefactors under different programmes, knowledge productions, and collaborations.
Some of our consistent engagements with the exhibition space have included the FICA Emerging Artist Award Solo Show; FICA Homepage, a platform to showcase artists, researchers, curators, writers and other practitioners who have been selected for our grants and awards; India Art Fair; Project_Space, a recently launched incubatory space within the Reading Room that also functions as an exhibition and studio space for residents; and Serendipity Arts Festival, amongst others.
