The Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art, is delighted to announce that we are also supporting Sohrab Hura's project through the Amol Vadehra Art Grant in 2016-17.
Recognizing that there is immense potential in the different projects submitted this year, the jury noted promise in particular towards Sohrab Hura’s ongoing project and film, The lost head and the bird and decided to award him a travel grant for the same. The project currently in its production stage, is a site specific video work and the grant will support the artist's travels to the coastline in enabling that.
Sohrab Hura is an artist working with Photographs, Video, Text and Sound. In 2015 he self published his now out of print, first book Life is Elsewhere under his own publishing house with the moniker UGLY DOG. The sequel to the first book, Look It’s Getting Sunny Outside!!! will be self published in the summer of 2017. His Video work SWEET LIFE was included in the 11th Shanghai Biennale in 2016, curated by Raqs Media Collective. In keeping with his regular practice, the video work was made up of still images and part of the soundtrack was extracted from the photographs in the video by reading the light exposure on them and converting them into frequencies of sound accordingly. Sohrab Hura is represented by Experimenter, Kolkata. He is a nominee member of Magnum Photos.
