FICA ‘Art walks for Children’ was organised as a series of six sessions, conducted by Nilanjana Nandy at museums, galleries and art neighbourhoods. The Saturday sessions intended to introduce children to exciting exhibitions on view and were designed to attune young minds to art.

The children engaged with artworks through a variety of mediums and modalities, and focueds on educational experiences beyond what is taught at school, in order to foster curious and creative minds. The walk-throughs also doubled up as interactive sessions where children explored the exhibitions via hands-on exercises and fun games on site.

The aim of these walk-throughs was to make art more accessible to children in terms of both content and first-hand interaction, and engage with it in a non-hierarchical fashion where conversation and play was emphasised. It explored the potential of art spaces as places of learning.

Through the series, we aimed to make this experience of visiting art exhibitions art more holistic, engaging, and imaginative for children.
