The FICA Art Educators' Forum as a platform for collective thinking about art education in India, particularly at Indian schools. How do we/our children learn about art and learnt with art? While we are, on the one hand, looking at the question of how to teach art and its significance to students, on the other hand, we are also deeply interested in how to learn with art in a larger context. So it is not a question of subject alone but a methodology. How does art affect the process of looking, seeing, thinking, questioning and learning?
The Forum is a space where a core group of educators are invited to participate in the process of ‘thinking together’ about ideas on art education curriculum in Indian schools, the cognitive and emotional impact of learning using methods which diverge from bookish rote learning, and on how can we evaluate the value of art education. To facilitate this FICA will invite special guests on a regular basis to engage with the group and address key issues around the need for and challenges to art education.
The Forum is a platform for networking – to help bring together independent artists and educators to share their works with each other, engage in constructive criticism, and develop productive collaborations. In a sense, this is essentially a space for this community of artists/artist-educators/teachers.
The Forum is a space to develop resources for sharing with other teachers and parents. In collaboration with the Forum members, FICA will look to develop and share resources, build templates for planning classes, and develop evaluation methods.
The Forum will be a closed group and members are included by invite only. Interested persons can write to us at info@ficart.org
